Plan ahead

Choose a destination and backup route; check pet arrangements and accessibility.Arrange transport, help for dependants and an out-of-area contact.Prepare a lightweight bag and check you can comfortably carry it.

Take if safe to do so

Take medication, medical aids, documents, keys and cash.Take water for the journey, snacks, a phone, cables and a flashlight.Take children’s essentials and pets’ lead or carrier, water and food.

Leave and notify

Tell your contact where you are going if doing so will not delay you.Do not routinely shut off gas or electricity; follow official and utility instructions.Use the instructed route. Do not return until officials say it is safe.
